Patek Philippe Grand Complications Perpetual Calendar Chronograph 5270 5270P-001 watches for sale
Patek Philippe 5905/1A Annual Calendar Chronograph Launched in 2021, the Patek Philippe 5905/1A Annual Calendar Chronograph represents the marriage of arguably the two most useful complications: the annual calendar and the flyback chronograph. Interestingly, this watch debuted the same year as the 5226G we recently reported on – another timepiece with a pair of extremely useful complications. Based on an early Patek Philippe Annual Calendar reference and introduced to modern collectors, the 5905 is a reminder of what Patek Philippe does best: respecting historical precedent while respecting modernity and innovation. In 1996, Patek Philippe wanted to extend the calendar complication to a wider audience. Recognizing that not every customer will be in the market for a perpetual calendar, now is the time to introduce a more approachable complication to bridge the gap between their entry-level Calatrava and the prestigious Grand Complications. The 5035 annual calendar, released that year, is the ideal middle ground, requiring only a date adjustment in March. With simpler and more affordable services, the new annual calendar became a staple of the 'Complicated Collection' and became one of the most popular and respected products in the brand's history.
Since the release of 5035, Patek Philippe has created a variety of annual calendars including 5036, 5135, 5146 and 5205. Then, in 2006, Patek Philippe combined the annual calendar and flyback chronograph for the first time with the groundbreaking 5960 – a combination of complications so useful that this version became an instant hit. In 2015, Patek Philippe launched its first model, the 5905, initially in platinum. Now, for the first time in the history of Patek Philippe, Patek Philippe 5905 has launched a steel case and bracelet combination, model 5905/1A.
The Patek Philippe 5905/1A is both elegant and sporty. Crafted from stainless steel and fitted with a solid-link bracelet, Patek Philippe purposefully crafted a product that would bring the annual calendar chronograph into the more casual sporty realm. Nevertheless, Patek Philippe has condensed the day, date, month and chronograph into a set of simple and elegant displays. This versatility is at the heart of every aspect of the watch's execution. The stainless-steel bracelet's clever combination of contrasting brushed and polished surfaces showcases Patek Philippe's superb finishing and pays homage to the bracelet designs of many Aquanaut reference models.
Unlike most metal bracelets in the watch world, the 5905/1A has a brushed center link and polished outer links. This immediately draws attention to the concave polished bezel and olive green sunburst dial. The swirling gentle curves of the case perfectly frame the dial, making the case and bracelet visually interesting and sophisticated without distracting from the dial. The dials are arranged in concentric rings, and the annual calendar function is located within these rings. The chronograph minutes intersect these circles at six o'clock, dividing the dial evenly and helping to balance the layout of the dial. At the center of the 60-minute chrono scale, the AM/PM indicator turns blue at night. During these times, it is recommended to avoid adjusting the calendar mechanism,
Platinum inlaid hour markers further subdivide the dial into multiple sectors, and the beveled top surfaces meet with a thin line. The detail work continues to the lugs, which have a concave scalloped shape that complements the concave profile of the bezel. The case sides and buttons are mirror polished and slightly rounded to soften the lines and enhance the aesthetic. The layout of this dial clearly reflects the historical journey of Patek Philippe's past annual calendar references. The 5205 Annual Calendar has a very similar dial layout with the addition of chronographs. This makes the 5905/1A feel like a good fit in the Patek collection, with a notable attribute of Patek DNA baked into the 42mm case size.
